about

Lesson 3
“MEMORY OF LOVE”
I composed “Memory of Love” when my mother was suffering from dementia. I found myself deeply grieving her while she was still alive. For this lesson, I will share my experiences and coping methods. By embracing my memories of my mother’s love, I was better able to handle my despair. I realize that not everyone has loving memories or the opportunity to say goodbye to their loved one. Still, I believe there are other ways to incorporate memories of love into your life. In the present, I strive to create new memories that those I love will hold onto when I am gone. Love is a circle.

lyrics

THE MEMORY OF LOVE

How can I tell you, I’m sad you’re leaving me?
I miss the way you used to be
I’ve lost you somewhere
I’m lonely and I cannot share

I can’t tell you, so instead I just pretend
it’s easier that way than to face the end
I’ve tried so hard to accept
as you fade away, I’ve slowly wept

I feel, I sense, there’s so much fear
I try to be brave, as you disappear from here

I cannot see you,
you’ve become transparent
I ache and wonder where you went
I know you can’t hear my cries
with deaf ears and vacant eyes

I pray, I wish, you were aware
but when I feel despair
the memory of love is there
Even though you’re not aware
the memory of love is always there

about

Judy Unger Los Angeles, California

I have been an artist all of her life. Although I played classical guitar in college, I left music behind when I was 21. 30 years later, I began writing songs to help me cope with the challenges in my life. Many of my songs are dedicated to my son, Jason, who died in 1992. I love to inspire hope of healing with my music, because my songs have certainly healed me of any pain. ... more
